Nothing new will happen here. But there were some things I didn't want to lose. My active journal is at[info]portiareigns. It will be almost entirely a friends only journal.

So, late in the day I am posting a very good song and hoping that Meg is feeling better these days. Her brother has been staying home with her and cancelling dates because of her panic attacks. Feel better Meg.

This is a cool meme that I stole from a talented writer Subversa

Rules:
1. Open your music library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc.).
2. Put it on shuffle and press play.
3. For every question, type the song that's playing. When you go to a new question, go to the next song.
4. Don't cheat and try to pretend you're cool!

your very own sound track for a movie )

When we first got internet service and Napster was still legal I went looking for songs that I loved when I was a kid and hadn't heard since then. I was so excited because I found "Moody Woman" by Jerry Butler. I downloaded it and started to play it and was sadly dissapointed and severely mocked by my kids. Since that point in time whenever you listen to or see something that you used to like and it doesn't live up to your memory of it, the moment has been dubbed a "Moody Woman Moment".
Here is the original.

Here is a song that is the opposite of a Moody Woman moment. I went to great lengths to find this record as it wasn't sold in 'my neighborhood'. I lost track of the 45rpm and was sad. About three years ago Tom found a CD for me of Ann Peebles. Not only was the song as good as I remembered;it was better because I was older and understood a little more than I had as a mere youth. The whole collection of music was fabulous. From the hardship of East St. Louis, the soulful sweet voice of Ann Peebles. Every time I hear some Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston style vocal pyrotechnics I want to mail a copy of this song to the offender.

Go on. Tell me you Moody Woman moment and the one that actually got better because you were older.

As long as my loved ones are in one piece physically, I can love them and cherish them. All the rest conveniently falls into this category.

This is the band Material Issue. They were from Chicago and I still love them. When Meredith was 6 or 7 years old I found her singing the chorus of this song at the top of her lungs. Her favorite though, was Valerie Loves Me.I think it's funny that in this video they had to change the lyrics. The original chorus was

I want love.
I want drugs.
I want sex and affection.
I want everyone in this room here, to look in my direction.

Over the course of the last forty years rock and roll has repeated itself many times. Sly Stone wrote Everyday People and then there was "Ain't Nothing Wrong With That"
It don't matter )

Recently, I have noticed the need for some encouragement for myself and many others that I value in this little corner of electronic ether. I love the movie "Little Miss Sunshine" Here is a trailer for one of the most inspirational movies I have ever seen about the ups and downs of living and the joy of being different when you revel in your individuality. If you haven't seen this film, you really must. It will make a positive difference in your life. NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND.
